JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) configuration allows multiple individual drives to be combined together to create a single logical volume. Unlike traditional RAID configurations, JBOD does not offer any data redundancy or fault tolerance features. Each drive in a JBOD configuration operates independently, and data is stored across the drives in a linear manner without any striping or mirroring. JBOD can be used to combine multiple drives into a single large volume, offering increased storage capacity. This can be useful in situations where a large amount of storage space is needed, such as storing large media files or backups. With JBOD, each drive is treated as a separate volume, making it easier to manage and access data on specific drives. This can be advantageous if you have different storage requirements for different data sets or if you want to keep data on separate drives for organization purposes. They are typically more cost-effective compared to traditional RAID arrays. This is because there is no need for expensive RAID controllers or redundancy features, making JBOD an affordable option for storage expansion.
